血管新生の世界的権威でパイオニアであるジュダ・フォークマン博士（Dr. Judah Folkman）が昨日突然お亡くなりになられました。７４歳でした。フォークマン博士は癌の成長と転移に栄養供給ルートとしての腫瘍血管が重要な役割をはたし、腫瘍血管新生を癌治療の新たな標的として見いだした業績で有名であり、ハーバード大学医学部内だけでなく、おそらく全米で最も著名なphysician- scientistのひとりでありました。ボストン小児病院で毎週ある血管生物学セミナーで最近までお元気なお姿をみかけておりましたので、非常に驚いております。ご冥福をお祈りいたします。

Folkman, Cancer Research Pioneer, Dies at 74

Dr. Judah Folkman, a cancer researcher known for his groundbreaking work on angiogenesis, has died at the age of 74. Angiogenesis involved cutting off the blood supply to cancer cells. Folkman's work cured the disease in mice, and though it didn't succeed in humans, it did spur new cancer treatments.
